We only go here when our primary's aren't open. I called yesterday to see if I needed an appointment to get a flu shot for my son or if we can just walk in. So I take my son to the clinic and they asked if we had an appointment. I said no, I called to ask about needing one for a flu shot. She said she wasn't sure they could fit us in.

The House of the Vettii of Pompeii

house of the vettii

The stone-lined basin for collecting rainwater (impluvium) lies at the center of the atrium. This larger atrium communicates directly with the peristyle (an open courtyard surrounded by fluted Doric columns) by means of a set of folding doors. The smaller atrium was the focus of the service portion of the house, while the peristyle and its well-appointed rooms was meant for entertainment and dining. The final mythological scene in the south-east triclinium is Cyparissus on the north wall.

The Real Story Behind George Washington's Dentures

The office of the head of household (paterfamilias), known as the tablinum, links the public part of the house (pars urbana) to the private part of the house (pars rustica). This latter area often focuses on an open, colonnaded courtyard (peristylium) and serves as the center of family life, with the kitchen (culina), dining room(s) (triclinium or oecus), and often a small garden (hortus). Many houses also had a second level that may have contained additional sleeping spaces and perhaps storage. A house is, of course, a dwelling—but it is also a stage on which the rituals of daily life and social hierarchy would be performed.

Domestic spaces, in particular, offer a rich resource for examining ancient lives that, in some cases, ended abruptly. Pompeii was thriving up until the moment of its destruction and in studying its life interrupted, we arrive at important insights about what it was like to live in the Roman Mediterranean. The final mythological scene in the south-east triclinium is Achilles on Skyros, painted on the east wall. After learning that Achilles would die during the Trojan War, his mother, Thetis, sent him to live on the island of Skyros. Odysseus displays gifts in front of the King's daughter, including arms and armor. The final mythological scene in the southern triclinium is the Infant Herakles strangling the snakes, located on the north wall.

Noteworthy Details

The house itself is architecturally significant not only because of its size but also because of the indications it gives of important changes that were underway in the design of Roman houses during the third quarter of the first century C.E. A section of the 1st century CE cupids frieze from the triclinium or dining room from the House of the Vetti in Pompeii. The frieze depicts cupids selling flowers and perfumes and as workers who sell flowers, make wine and work gold. Leaving the living room and following the Peristyle we find a few rooms set to one side and thought to have been reserved for women (gynaeceum) , where we can see a Triclinium and a Cubiculum opposite a small garden. Two frescoes in this area depict Odysseus recognising Achilles, and Auge surprised by a drunken Hercules. The decision to site them here can probably be explained by the desire of the masters of the house to underline their wealth and importance.

Richly decorated with impeccably preserved frescoes — including the Cupid Rooms, which reveal a 15cm-high frieze of cupids preparing for a banquet — the house is considered one of the most outstanding examples of first-century Roman art. "We're seeing here the last phase of the Pompeian wall painting with incredible details, so you can stand before these images for hours and still discover new details. The newly restored remains of an opulent house in Pompeii has offered visitors an exceptional peek at details of domestic life in the doomed Roman city.

In Maine, the Art of Basketry Hangs On By a Thread

"The House of the Vettii is like the history of Pompeii and actually of Roman society within one house," Pompeii's director, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, said as he showed off an area known as the Cupid Rooms. The House of the Vettii, a significant point of interest within the Pompeii Archaeological Park, is conveniently located in the Regio VI district. As you enter the park from the main Porta Marina entrance, head east on Via dell’Abbondanza, one of the main streets of ancient Pompeii. The House of the Vettii in Pompeii, named after its presumed owners, the Vettii brothers, served as a residential building with a distinct societal role. This grandiose domicile was a symbol of wealth and status, intended to display the prosperity of the Vettii, successful freedmen who ascended the social ladder through commerce.

The plan of the house

The only surviving mythological scene in the triclinium next to the small peristyle is Herakles and Auge, painted on south wall. This scene depicts the myth of the rape of Auge, who was the daughter of the King of Taega and the priestess of Athena, by a drunken Herakles. The second mythological scene in the southern triclinium is the Punishment of Dirce, which is located on the south wall.

Plan

It offers visitors a glimpse of Ancient Roman life in the corner of Italy frozen in time after Mount Vesuvius's eruption in 79 AD. In the living room, known as the Hall of Pentheus, a fresco depicts Hercules as a child, crushing two snakes, in an illustration of an episode from the Greek hero's life. Mr Zuchtriegel said fresh "readings" of the revived fresco painting reveal the "dreams and imagination and anxieties of the owners because they lived between these images'', which include Greek mythological figures. The house was constructed using a variety of materials, including opus craticium (a framework of timber filled in with rubble), opus incertum (small stones set in concrete), and opus reticulatum (a diamond pattern of small, pyramidal stones).

After being welcomed into Olympus by the god, Ixion grew to lust after Zeus's wife, Hera. After Ixion attempts to seduce her, Zeus creates the cloud goddess Nephele in the image of Hera. As punishment, Zeus banishes Ixion from Olympus and orders Hermes to tie Ixion to a winged fiery wheel, which is to spin for eternity. Beyond the twelve mythological paintings, many more artworks are displayed in the House of the Vettii. The next room is decorated with frescoes depicting the struggle between Cupid and Pan, Cyparissus who is transformed into a cypress tree after killing a sacred stag and, lastly, some images of Jupiter in the upper section of the wall. The two rooms (alae) opening off the Atrium just before it leads into the garden have frescoes painted on a yellow background; these depict a cock fight on the left, and two medallions portraying the heads of Medusa and Silenus on the right.

There are various traces of the life of the poor, in particular a room adjoining the kitchen in the slaves’ quarters which is decorated with small erotic paintings. The room was originally fitted with an iron door to ensure that access was restricted only to adult men. It has been suggested that the room was used for prostitution, a hypothesis that appears to be confirmed by the discovery of an inscription on the left wall of the vestibulum (entrance hall). The inscription refers to a woman named Eutychis, “a Greek woman of pleasant manners”, who was offered for two asses (copper coins) (Eutychis Graeca a(ssibus) II moribus bellis). Besides the beauty of ancient art and architecture, this find offers an extraordinary insight into ancient society, its stratification and customs.

The patron-client system revolved around asymmetrical social relationships whereby lower ranking clients were bound to their patrons by the qualities of trust (fides) and dutifulness (pietas). Governed by ancestral custom (mos maiorum), clients would seek support and favors from the patron; in turn the patron provided protection, support, and benefaction, collectively known as patrocinium. This system had changed somewhat by the time of the brothers Vettii and it is unclear to what extent the patron-client system factored in their lives or in their own domestic sphere.

Continue until you reach the junction with Vicolo Meridionale, turn right, and you will find the House of the Vettii on your left. This strategic location within the archaeological site ensures easy accessibility for all visitors keen to glimpse into Pompeii’s illustrious past. In recent years, however, they have also started broadening their focus, excavating sites such as a middle-class home and an enslaved family’s living quarters. In the cubiculum next to the large atrium, Ariadne abandoned by Theseus is painted on the north wall.

The garden also has ancient species of plants cultivated in the nursery within the Park as a part of a more wide-ranging project designed to enhance historic gardens and the cultivation of green areas of the ancient city through partnerships with local farmers and plant growers. The newly restored remains of an opulent house in Pompeii that likely belonged to two former slaves who became rich through the wine trade offer visitors an exceptional peek at details of domestic life in the doomed Roman city. One of its most famous frescoes is right by the doorway to the house and depicts Priapus, the Greek god of fertility, weighing his gigantic penis on a set of scales leaning against a bag of money. An image that was likely supposed to symbolize the owners' wealth and perhaps to impress (or intimidate) the neighbors. Generally entered from the street via a narrow doorway (fauces), the large centralized reception hall (atrium) is flanked by wings (alae) and often bounded by bedrooms (cubicula).

The Guardian reports that the House of the Vettii was located in one of Pompeii’s wealthy neighborhoods. The property included statues, gardens, fountains, vibrant — and sometimes erotic — frescoes, and even a brothel. Although the house partially opened in 2016, it closed again in 2020 to allow for complete restoration work before finally reopening on January 9.

The specific Romans who inhabited the House of the Vettii were Aulus Vettius Restitutus and Aulus Vettius Conviva, wine merchants who made their fortunes after being freed from slavery. The strongboxes, paired with a painting of the god Priapus in the vestibule, serve to underscore the wealth of the brothers Vettii. This painting, which shows Priapus weighing his own phallus against a bag of money, may represent the socio-economic ambitions of the Vettii and perhaps indicates that those ambitions were different from those of high-ranking citizen families.

The mythological scene, Wrestling match between Pan and Eros is located in the south-east triclinium, surrounding the large atrium, on the south wall. The Death of Pentheus scene is located in the southern triclinium, surrounding the large peristyle, and painted on the east wall. The scene depicts Pentheus, the legendary King of Thebes, being killed by the female followers of Dionysus. When Dionysus returned to Thebes, Pentheus refused to believe Dionysus divinity as a god and imprisoned him, banning his worship. Dionysus escaped and enchanted Pentheus to go to Mt. Cithairon, disguised as a maenad.

The construction of the house and its decorations belong to the final period of Pompeii’s occupation and therefore provides important evidence of the aesthetics of the city on the eve of its destruction. Plan, House of the Vettii, Late Republican-Early Imperial domus, destroyed 79 C.E.

A Brief History of Scent With Saskia Wilson-Brown

Most art historians point to the house’s decorative schema as being representative of a key transitional phase, between the Third and Fourth styles of Pompeian wall painting. Some scholars consider it among the finest examples of the Fourth Style at Pompeii. Paul Zanker sees the Fourth Style wall paintings as being imitations of higher art forms, reckoning that the chosen pictures aim to turn the rooms into picture galleries (pinacothecae).

Since Republican society operated on the basis of this patron-client relationship, the domus played a key part in the reinforcement of social hierarchy as the patron (patronus) would receive his clients (clientes) in the atrium of his domus each business day. While visiting with the patron, each client would get an eyeful of the patron’s household wealth, thus applying implicit pressure on the patron to ensure that his house was tasteful and fashionable. Leaving the residential part of the house through a doorway beside the main entrance, we come into the area where the servants worked and lived. In the small Atrium we find the Lararium, the altar to the domestic gods, on which we can see a scene depicting the Genius with two Lares dancing on either side above a serpent, the symbol of regenerative power. The House of the Vettii is one of the most important and spectacular sites in Pompeii.

Eventually Antiope escaped and reunited with her now adult sons but was recaptured by Dirce, who ordered that Antiope be put to death by being dragged by a bull. Amphion and Zethus saved their mother and killed Dirce in the same manner she was going to have their mother put to death. The wall facing the entrance is decorated with a Fresco of Priapus weighing his phallus on a pair of scales and a sheep with the attributes of Mercury, the god of financial income, which here serve to protect the house from bad luck and as propitiatory symbols of wealth. The Atrium is decorated with scenes depicting sacrifices, hunts and cupids while two strong-boxes are anchored to stone blocks in the floor. First unearthed during archaeological excavations in the late 19th century, the domus was closed in 2002 for urgent restoration work, including shoring up roofing.

The residence "represents the Pompeiian domus par excellence, not only because of the frescoes of exceptional importance, but also because of its layout and architecture," she said. Stefania Giudice, director of fresco restoration, said it "resulted in them becoming very blurred over time, because very thick and opaque layers formed, making it difficult to 'read' the fresco". Previous restoration work involved repeated application of paraffin over the frescoed walls in the hopes of preserving them. We believe art has the power to transform lives and to build understanding across cultures. Smarthistory’s free, award-winning digital content unlocks the expertise of hundreds of leading scholars, making the history of art accessible and engaging to more people, in more places, than any other publisher. Now, thanks to meticulous restoration efforts that lasted two decades, one of the doomed town’s most opulent homes, the House of the Vettii, has been brought back to life. Marco Cantile/LightRocket via Getty ImagesRestored frescoes in the House of the Vettii. An inscription discovered on a wall gives the name of the enslaved person who worked here in Casa dei Vetti, Eutychis, describing her as a "Greek of beautiful manners" alongside an engraving that lists her services, ranging from one to 16 asses (a local currency). After being buried under rubble for nearly two millennia, Pompeii's House of the Vettii has reopened to the public following 20 years of restoration work. The tantalising fresh insights into the everyday life of one of the most celebrated remnants of the ancient world has delighted tourists and rewarded experts.

The unveiling of the restored home has proved yet another sign of the rebirth of Pompeii, following decades of modern bureaucratic neglect, flooding and pillaging by thieves in search of artefacts to sell. These are just some of the many fascinating features you can explore in this unique snapshot of ancient Roman life. In ancient Roman society, homes often served dual or even multiple functions as spaces for commerce, display, and entertainment, in addition to their role as a personal retreat. As such, the House of the Vettii is a prime example of this multi-role function, standing as a silent but eloquent testament to the societal norms and practices of affluent Romans in Pompeii.

She also suggests the crew should break into the Abaddon to see for themselves what happened inside. Soon after, Diane attempts to leave a message at the hotel reception desk for Sara, but reception informs her that no one under Sara’s name is registered as a guest and there is no room 2C at that hotel. Evil Dead is, of course, Raimi’s horror franchise going back to 1981’s same-name film starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, a combatant of various supernatural entities. That pic grew into a trilogy, also spurring the creation of Starz’s Ash vs. Evil Dead and a number of other projects. The most recent, standalone film Evil Dead Rise from writer-director Lee Cronin, grossed more than $147M worldwide last year when it hit theaters via Warner Bros, after launching at SXSW.

Her determination is almost powerful enough to make it seem plausible that the group would stay despite mounting red flags suggesting they should flee the property and never look back. This isn’t Amityville Horror—Margot and company haven’t invested anything but time, so they could leave at any moment, plus the freaky footage they capture early in their visit would be more than enough to bring Margot’s website zillions of clicks. The Hell House movies have garnered a dedicated fan base due to their unique blend of found-footage horror, supernatural elements, and immersive storytelling. What sets them apart from other horror films is their ability to create an atmosphere of dread and unease that lingers long after the credits roll. The use of found footage adds a sense of realism, making viewers feel like they are experiencing the horrors firsthand. Havel's tapes document the company's arrival at the Abaddon Hotel as they set it up for Halloween.

After not finding anything suitable, they instead began searching for real haunted house attractions to shoot in. They found the haunted attraction called the Haunting at the Waldorf Hotel in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, run by Angie Moyer, who served as the film's set designer. The script had to be changed in a few areas to reflect the change in setting. A Hell house, like a conventional haunted-house attraction, is a space set aside for actors to frighten patrons with gruesome exhibits and scenes, presented as a series of short vignettes with a narrated guide.

The crew tracks down the sole surviving member of the Hell House staff, Sara Havel, who provides them with footage shot in the lead up to the tragedy. It is to both of the films’ credit that they only partially resemble each other. Disturbing text messages from Chase drive the two women to flee into the car, but the cult members surround them. Returning to the manor once again, Margot hears Chase calling for her, leaving Rebecca, who is killed by Catherine’s ghost.

Director Stephen Cognetti expressed his wishes to expand the universe, get a higher budget, and move on from the found footage genre, and that makes us hopeful for the future. After a few more rounds of re-cuts, the film was locked just before its first public screening at the Telluride Horror Show in October 2015. The film would also screen at Fear Fete Film Festival the same week, where it won the best paranormal film award. The worldwide distribution rights for Hell House LLC were acquired by Terror Films, with a North American VOD release date of November 1, 2016.

After a deadly plague kills most of the world's population, the remaining survivors split into two groups - one led by a benevolent elder and the other by a malevolent being - to face each other in a final battle between good and evil. There are actually quite a few options that have one or two of the films, and you can see a more in-depth rundown of where all the films are streaming here. So, gather your courage, turn off the lights, and prepare yourself for a bone-chilling journey through the Hell House movies. Just remember to keep your eyes open and your wits about you – you never know what horrors await around each corner.

They go to the second floor, where they see a room labeled '2C', the same room Sara said she was staying in. Diane and her cameraman try to flee but are attacked by a ghoulish Sara and other ghostly figures. Fifteen people, including the first group of attendees and the members of the Hell House company that opened the attraction, died in what authorities decreed as an "unknown malfunction".

Unlike haunted houses, Hell houses focus on real-life situations and the effects of sin or the fate of unrepentant sinners in the afterlife. Whether you’re a die-hard horror fan or someone looking for a good scare, the Hell House movies offer an unforgettable experience. From the eerie setting of abandoned hotels and amusement parks to the terrifying entities lurking within, these films will leave you questioning what lies beyond our reality.

Earlier this year, Ghost House tapped Sébastien Vaniček(Infested) to co-write and direct a new spin-off for the franchise, as we were also first to report. When a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life. When a government official disappears in the London tunnels, after several reports of missing people in the same location, Scotland Yard start to take the matter seriously, along with a couple who stumble into a victim by accident. A group of graduate students and scientists uncover an ancient canister in an abandoned church, but when they open the container, they inadvertently unleash a strange liquid and an evil force on all humanity. When a team of explorers venture into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead. In Italy, a woman becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism.

The cast, premise, and cinematography were praised, and over the course of 4 years, two additional installments were released, and 4 years after, a spinoff was released as well. The ‘Hell House’ franchise overall consists of 4 movies, with three being a part of the original trilogy and the latest movie being a spinoff. A group of cold case investigators stay at the Carmichael Manor, site of the grisly and unsolved murders of the Carmichael family back in the eighties. What is discovered on their footage is even more disturbing than anything found on the Hell House tapes. A troubled evangelical minister agrees to let his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew. The Legend of Hell House is one of only two productions of James H. Nicholson after his departure from American International Pictures — a company he had run, along with Samuel Z. Arkoff, since 1954.

After filming wrapped within Lehighton in May, the production then moved to New York City, where most of the interviews were filmed. It is revealed that what Mitchell saw was a possessed member of Hell House killing Sara; she has been dead the whole time they had been speaking to her, and there were, in fact, no survivors. In addition to a number of award-winning shorts, like High Desert Hell and The Gemini Project, the up-and-coming genre filmmaker has previously been tapped to helm multiple music videos for the L.A.-based indie rock band Mt. Joy.

Her sister Catherine and mother Eleanor were murdered, but her father Arthur and brother Patrick disappeared. Margot’s own interest in the paranormal began after a man in a clown costume tried to abduct her at a funfair when she was a child. Margot and Rebecca are joined by Chase, who has a history of psychosis, drawn to help Margot following another episode. They find a locked storage room full of paraphernalia from the funfair, including three clown mannequins.

This old trick somehow doesn’t work this time, and when he eventually peeks the camera out, he finds the girl moving closer and closer ... Original and effective, the scene manages to be simultaneously funny and terrifying. These movies also excel at building tension through subtle scares and psychological terror rather than relying solely on gore and jump scares. The filmmakers skillfully craft an unsettling ambiance that keeps audiences on edge throughout each installment. A team of cold case investigators checks into Carmichael Manor, but after four nights, they mysteriously vanish without a trace.

The film is presented in a documentary style, following wealthy entrepreneur Russell Wynn’s endeavor to use the infamous Abaddon Hotel for an immersive theater experience named “Insomnia,” based on the Faust legend. Despite being aware of the location’s dark history and numerous warnings about ongoing supernatural events, Russell remains determined to proceed. The documentary team delves into Russell’s past and the prior incidents, discovering footage suggesting Russell’s involvement or monitoring of the events. Still, there’s suspense to be had as Margot puzzles through vintage clues and discovers what makes Carmichael Manor an origin story for Hell House LLC.

The real-life houses from Modern Family and where to find them

crowdy house

After seeing thousands and thousands of great design here on Design Milk, it’s easy to say we want it all. However, it’s not always easy to purchase what we write here about, which is a common problem from independent designers. Despite having good design and an audience, it can be difficult to raise enough resources to finance products. The property has changed hands a number of times both before and after the filming of Friday. The property sold in 1998 for $145,000 then again in 2018 for $225,000.

The band sold recordings of the shows on the Intriguer tour on USB flash drives and made individual live tracks available for free download. The new tracks, as well as some from the previously rejected recordings were combined to make Woodface, which was released in July 1991. The album features eight tracks co-written by Neil and Tim,[9] which feature the brothers harmonising on lead vocals, except on the sombre "All I Ask" on which Tim sang lead. The track was later used on AIDS awareness commercials in Australia.[9] Five of the album's tracks were Neil's solo compositions and two were by Hester, the exuberant "Italian Plastic", which became a crowd favourite at concerts[9] and the hidden track "I'm Still Here".

In addition the above, KUFALA Recordings released numerous limited edition Crowded House recordings on CDr, recorded across USA and Canada in 2007 and 2010. As of 2021 Crowded House have sold over 15 million albums worldwide. As you might expect with a property that has changed hands numerous times, both the interior and exterior have changed somewhat over the years. Friday is an American-stoner movie released in 1995 starring Ice Cube (Craig Jones) and Chris Tucker (Smokey). The film centers around the two unemployed best friends needing to pay a local drug dealer by Friday night.

The album's first single, "Mean to Me", reached the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart top 30 in June.[4] It failed to chart in the US,[7] but moderate American airplay introduced US listeners to the group. CROWDY HOUSE, the platform and marketplace for the world’s best designers and makers, has had an impressive year. We met them at the very beginning when they raised their first round of funding via Leapfunder, and today we’ve asked Mark Studholme, CEO of CROWDY HOUSE, to share all about their path to success. Using a similar crowdfunding principle to the one popularised by companies such as Kickstarter, designers are able to raise money upfront by inviting funding for products which investors eventually receive once they have been produced. The designers retain 90 percent of the funding total, with CrowdyHouse taking the other 10 percent.

The initiative for the new design platform arrives at a time where the creative industry boils of good ideas, but all sources of financing have been depleted. The government is handing out increasingly less innovation grants. 'CrowdyHouse can be a crowbar, a party that fills the void between a good idea and the lover of design', according to Studholme.

Carpet designer Lizan Freijsen needs a small storage space before she can close a good deal with a textiles lab which produces carpets made from lichen. On 19 August 2021, the band performed their single “To the Island” on CBS's The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. On 6 December 2008 Crowded House played the Homebake festival in Sydney, with warm up gigs at small venues in Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney. For these shows the band were augmented by multi-instrumentalist Don McGlashan and Neil's younger son, Elroy Finn, on guitar. On 14 March 2009 the band joined Neil's older son, Liam Finn, on stage for three songs at the Sound Relief concert in Melbourne. Then came CROWDY HOUSE – the marketplace for the world’s furniture, fashion and product designers. We really understand our market, I don’t think we would startup in any other sector.

The Cheviot Hills neighborhood has been heavily featured (this is where the Dunphy house is set), as has Brentwood (Jay’s house), and Century City (Mitch’s house). Nevertheless, despite the often messy accidents that take place inside the home, the Dunphy house is always spotless, inviting, and seemingly a great place to live for all members of the family. A fairly traditional American couple, Phil and Claire’s characters and tastes are very much reflected in their living space. It’s set down the street from the studios where the show was filmed, and fairly close to the Dunphy house.

The Friday house as it looks today, while the house has been painted a different color and there are other superficial changes, much is still the same. And you’ll be happy to hear that this Modern Family house is just as real as the others. There’s also another duplex that appeared on-screen as the couple’s home.

In real life, the charming two-story that served as Mitch and Cam’s vine-covered home on Modern Family is located at 2211 Fox Hills Drive, in Century City, CA. The successful patriarch of the family, Jay, lives in the nicest house — which just so happens to reflect his status and wealth, as well as the new life he’s embarked on alongside his new family. The houses themselves speak volumes about the characters, and played a crucial role in the show’s successful 11-season run. And, as it turns out, they’re just as charming in real-life as they were on the show.

Since it’s one of the wealthiest areas of Los Angeles, many celebrities have called it home over the years, including Harrison Ford, Cindy Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, Travis Scott, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, to name just a few. In reality, the property that serves as Jay’s home is much bigger than what we see on the show; exterior shots only captured parts of the Brentwood property. Evocative of Jay Pritchett’s cool demeanor (with a clean, modern design throughout, punctured by colorful decor elements, to signal Gloria’s influences), the modern mansion is a symbol of status. The two-story contemporary home of the Pritchetts is by far the most opulent property on the show. Mitchell lives in a most quaint and beautiful duplex, while his sister, Claire, owns a spacious, traditional family home (no doubt bought at a good price, if her Realtor husband had a say). The houses themselves speak volumes about the characters, making it easier for the viewers to get into the story without much further context.

Their version of The Zombies' "She's Not There" was used on the soundtrack of The Crossing, a 1990 film starring Russell Crowe.[40] In addition to these, the group often would perform The Beatles' "Rocky Raccoon", among many other Beatles songs. The group would also often perform Irish folk traditional piece "The Parting Glass". As the group rose from the ashes of Split Enz, they often performed various Split Enz songs, in particular "This Is Massive" because it was written by Paul Hester for Split Enz's last album, the only studio album he performed on. "The #milanuncut story was really just a symptom of the unsustainable state of the furniture industry," said McGuirk this week. "As design manufacturing is forced to reinvent itself, crowdfunding platforms are an obvious step in a new direction, potentially giving designers direct access to markets of their own making." Following the 1996 break-up of Crowded House, the members embarked upon a variety of projects.

A new compilation album, The Very Very Best of Crowded House, was released in October 2010 to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary.[39] It includes 19 of the band's greatest hits and is also available in a box set with a 25 track DVD of their music videos. A deluxe digital version, available for download only, has 32 tracks including a rare 1987 live recording of the band's version of the Hunters & Collectors song "Throw Your Arms Around Me". No mention of this album has been made on the band's official website or Twitter page, which suggests that they are not involved with its release. Crowded House themselves frequently perform a version of the Hunters and Collectors' "Throw Your Arms Around Me" and Paul Kelly's "Leaps and Bounds" during their live sets (including at the ARIA Music Awards of 1997 ceremony, inducting Kelly into the Hall of Fame).

Raising funding via Leapfunder allows you to, very easily, get money/investment from friends and family, without any extra legal implications of doing an equity round. Neil Finn released two solo studio albums, Try Whistling This (1998) and One Nil (2001), as well as two live albums, Sessions at West 54th (2000) and 7 Worlds Collide (2001). 7 Worlds Collide saw him performing with guest musicians including Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway of Radiohead, Tim Finn, Sebastian Steinberg, Lisa Germano and Betchadupa (featuring his son Liam Finn). Finn and Hester performed "Not the Girl You Think You Are" with Largest Living Things, before being joined by Seymour for "Sister Madly" and a version of Paul Kelly's "Leaps and Bounds", which also featured Kelly on vocals. Hester and Seymour were reunited when they both joined singer-songwriter Matt O'Donnell's Melbourne-based group Tarmac Adam.[34] The band released one album, 2003's Handheld Torch, which was produced by Seymour. The next single, "Don't Dream It's Over", was released in October 1986 and proved an international hit, reaching number two on the US Billboard Hot 100[7] and number one in Canada.[19] New Zealand radio stations initially gave the song little support until months later when it became internationally successful. Ultimately, the song reached number one on the New Zealand singles chart and number eight in Australia.[4][6] It remains the group's most commercially successful song.

For the show’s pilot episode, a different property was used as the home of the Pritchett-Tucker family. The 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom duplex is almost a century old, having been built in 1929. While there are no recent sales on record, the multifamily property is worth around $2 million. It’s now worth well over $10 million, with real estate portals like Zillow.com estimating its value around $11 million, while Redfin.com places it at around $11.5 million.

However, it appears the interior scenes were actually filmed on a set. This is most likely due to space, the property doesn’t have much room for cameramen, sound guys, and the actors themselves. Fans of the 1995 movie ‘Friday’ will most likely recognize this house as the ‘Friday house’. It was the home of Craig Jones, where he and his friend Smokey would spend much of their time smoking on the porch, watching the world go bye. While on the show Claire and Phil’s house has a distinct suburban feel, the real-life Modern Family house is actually located at Dunleer Dr., in Los Angeles, CA — less than two miles from the studio where the show taped.

"Our platform means that designers don't have to take their product to Milan, stand next to it for a week, convince someone to buy it and then only receive 5 percent in royalties of the wholesale price," Studholme told Dezeen. As the primary songwriter for the band, Neil Finn has always set the tone for the band's sound. AllMusic said that Finn "has consistently proven his knack for crafting high-quality songs that combine irresistible melodies with meticulous lyrical detail."[59] Neil's brother Tim was an early and important musical influence. Neil first saw Tim play with Split Enz in 1972, and said "that performance and those first songs made a lasting impression on me."[60] His mother was another significant musical influence, encouraging him to listen to a variety of genres, including Irish folk music and Māori music. She would play piano at family parties and encourage Neil and Tim to accompany her.

In the kitchen, a white marble center island offers added space for preparing meals and is complete with matching white cabinetry. Upon arriving at the lavish home, residents can admire the motor court's picturesque fountain before entering through the mansion's columned doors. The first floor contains a great room equipped with dark wooden floors and a hand-painted bar, making it the perfect entertaining space.

Stewart collects hot-blooded marble statuary and urbane Regency furniture. The corners of his rooms are populated with Roman busts and Italian blackamoors. He fills them with photographs of his family and himself in favorite outrageous moments, as well as with pictures of his muses, like Billie Holiday. Both Songbook CDs were recorded here, at the Beverly Hills house where he lives with his five children, his girlfriend, Penny Lancaster, his music library, his soccer gear and his many, many collections. Lately his taste in decoration has evolved almost as completely as his taste in music. There was a time when he had a huge rocker's appetite for Art Nouveau and Art Déco, assembling hundreds of pieces of Gallé glass and Ruhlmann cobra torchères in multiples.

Moving on up, the light fixtures were custom made in Utah, and the entryway light fixture was handcrafted in Alaska. Sourced a bit closer to home, Indiana bedrock was used for the fireplaces in the breakfast room, great room, and screened-in porch, as well as to decorate portions of the exterior. It has also been zoned as a hunting preserve, and the land is loaded with elk, deer and turkey. Other amenities include an 8,500-square-foot lower level decked out with a two-lane bowling alley, games area, golf simulator room and lighted onyx bar. His nearly 20,000-sq-ft ranch is surrounded by 415 wooded acres of land zoned for hunting and filled with turkey, deer, and elk.

The list continues, but Stewart did not have time to identify all of the helmets. A NASCAR Hall of Famer has just showcased an incredible collection spanning decades of motorsports history. Tony Stewart has provided a look at his helmet trophy case featuring pieces belonging to Richard Petty, AJ Foyt, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt, and Jimmie Johnson. The ranch also comes with an enclosed porch with a fireplace that overlooks a portion of the vast property.

Throughout the home are both hardwood and stone floors, which alternate between spaces. Meanwhile, the ranch's kitchen comes with a hibachi grill (including a commercial-grade exhaust system) and a gas stovetop surrounded by rustic cabinetry and elegant countertops, per the listing. When Tony Stewart’s house was first listed for sale in March 2022, the log home was Indiana’s most expensive listing. He’s one of the biggest names in racing and made history as the first and only driver to win championships in stock cars, Indy cars, and open-wheel Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown cars.

Local community members have been mourning Tony Stewart, a community activist who helped establish the Altadena branch of the NAACP. In keeping with the UK manor aesthetic, the stately mansion and its grounds exude a palatial Baroque style, and the highly decorated interiors are as posh as Buckingham Palace. Across its three stories, you’ll find a quarry’s worth of French marble, ornately detailed ceilings, gilded accents, and hand-forged wrought iron work. There’s also a slew of antique oil paintings, crystal chandeliers, and Regency-period furnishings that look straight out of Bridgerton. Rod the Mod told the Times that he wouldn’t be opposed to selling the home fully furnished.

The home itself is built from lodgepole pine native to the Northern Rocky Mountains and features a two-story waterfall and trout stream in the entryway, according to the listing. The residence is built from lodgepole pine sourced the Northern Rockies. The flooring is made up of white oak, red hardwood and stone imported from Texas. And Indiana bedrock was used to build the fireplaces in the breakfast room, great room and screened-in porch.

$500 Microgrants Offered To Uplift Altadena Neighborhoods

What happened in May of 2021 was that I was playing a joke on stage with someone who knew me and knew my style. And it was a time in which I think being a victim was looked at — as a — I don’t want to say a good thing, but it was something that people were utilizing to get their own names out there. Comedians are watching comedians do comedy on “Kill Tony.” I’m using a pro wrestling model. You could watch someone’s entire life change in front of your eyes. At the time, it was the crime capital of America; Youngstown, Ohio, averaging about a murder a day with a population of about 40,000 people. By the time I was in school, I was already just trying to entertain myself beyond being a class clown.

The entire massive residence is built out of lodgepole pine from the Northern Rockies, with the highest-end finishes throughout the ultra-luxurious property. It’s showcased by an almost 20,000-square-foot house crafted from lodge pole pine culled from the Northern Rockies, and comes complete with six bedrooms and 11 baths—all resting on over 400 acres of land boasting a 9-acre lake stocked with bass. A licensed hunting preserve, there’s also plenty of elk, deer and turkey roaming the grounds. “We enjoyed every square inch of the land here," he said in a 2022 statement (via Realtor.com). "This became my place to get away and relax with my family and friends. The best part is that there is always something to do here. The land is great for hunting and fishing, off-roading, or just sitting on the porch and enjoying the stars at night.

When it comes to the next generation, we’re seeing TikTok creators transitioning from funny videos to stand-up comedy, which isn’t always an easy bridge to cross. We surprised the industry when we put our tickets on sale for the YouTube theater, and they sold out in a couple of hours. I’ve spent the last three years in Austin, but I built everything, loved everything and knew everything about Los Angeles. Despite these setbacks, Hinchcliffe secured representation with Nick Nuciforo at United Talent Agency, whose clientele includes notable figures like Will Ferrell and Sarah Silverman. Hinchcliffe also continues to headline major events, such as the Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles, alongside Redban. Moving to Los Angeles in 2007, he made a name for himself at clubs for insulting both the audience and other comics and being willing to broach any topic, no matter how sensitive.

Edwards went back into his collection and found the helmet so he could trade it with Smoke and make it part of the trophy case. There are specific sections in the trophy case dedicated to champions from the national series. Stewart has two helmets from Darrell Waltrip, two from Richard Petty, one from Bill Elliott, two from Dale Earnhardt Jr., two from Dale Earnhardt Sr., and two from Jimmie Johnson.

Additionally, for those interested in hunting, the listing says, "Elk, deer, and turkey are abundant on this licensed hunting preserve." Now, it remains to be seen whether he can also make real estate history with the sale of his Indiana home. Some of the stand-out amenities include a massive indoor aquarium and a nearly 4,000-square-foot guest home. But there are so many of them that it’s hard to pick favorites. Dubbed Hidden Hollow Ranch, the estate is located in the relatively small city of Columbus, Stewart’s hometown, about an hour south of Indianapolis.

Stewart bought the acreage in 2004, and completed construction on the house in 2011. “I really enjoy how the materials ground you in the space, while the home’s size and grandeur elevate your excitement,” Holle shares. The property is listed exclusively with Carrie Holle of Compass.

A licensed hunting preserve, there’s also plenty of elk, deer and turkey roaming throughout the property. Stewart's 6-bedroom, 9.5-bathroom, 19,714-square-foot rustic mansion in Columbus, Ind., sits on 415 acres of woods with a 9-acre stocked lake. There's a two-story waterfall and trout stream in the entry hall, and the massive great room also boasts an 8700-gallon freshwater aquarium.

It features six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a two-story waterfall, a trout stream, a bowling alley, a gaming area, a golf simulator and a lighted onyx bar. Built from lodgepole pine sourced from the Northern Rockies, this enormous cabin provides the best of both natural comforts and luxurious amenities. The meticulously sourced materials continue through to the floors, made up of white oak, red hardwood, and stone from Texas.

However, he also noted that he will forever have a special place at his home for the autographed lid featuring Lowe’s decals and a handwritten message. In 2014, Stewart accidentally killed fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr. during a dirt-track race at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park. A guesthouse and large workshop are also located at Hidden Hollow Ranch. At least one of the bathrooms inside the ranch comes with an enormous glass shower and two long vanities on either side of the room.
